That approach has turned out well then.

If ringing is to grow rather than to continue to decline it needs vision plus long term planning and support, that takes money, and a credible and professionally run organisation to raise it. But I'm pretty sure I'm preaching to this particular choir :joke:

you might be surprised. Maybe we should ask the question. At the regular simulator sessions I hold we generally get about £10 from voluntary donations; and there are only 4-5 learners, so the helpers are paying too. And I know that more established centres are charging more, something i am thinking about...

learners are one thing, established ringers, who make up the bulk of the ringing population, are used to a lifetime of "cheap or even better, free"

so we need to change expectations before learners become infected with the traditional 'must be free' attitude.

I remember a couple of people when they were elected to the St Martin's Guild and asked for their £10, assuming it was a monthly subscription and then being very surprised to find it wasn't!
