What are people doing when asked to provide evidence of Public Liability (PL) insurance for visiting a tower? I have seen it a couple of times now and have just had such a request for a young ringers peal attempt.

It does represent a lack of understanding from the church asking for it, because once the PCC or incumbent has given permission, ringers are 'authorised volunteers', whether they are members of the local band or not, and are covered by the church's PL insurance. it's not obvious what risk the church is tryng to cover when asking to see ringers' insurance. Guidance is here https://cccbr.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/SM_Insurance_2022_v4.pdf

A visiting band wanting to avoid an issue can just give it's society or association's policy, but not all societies carry PL insurance, and not all bands represent a single society.
